Summary
Ever wonder what it was like to grow up as a Mexican-American in Texas and the south in the 1950’s? Hear my father’s experience growing up in Kingsville, TX. Also hear how he and his single mother made extra money as cotton-pickers, why he learned math before learning english and why he volunteered for the US Army during the Vietnam war, in a time where most who served were draftees. At the end of this episode I am joined briefly by Elpidia Juarez Nuñez, my mother and we discuss one of her experiences as a migrant worker in Alabama, and the proper way to frame negative experiences.
